Himachal Pradesh is called Devbhumi due to various temples the mountain state has. Shimla is the capital of the state with Dharamshala declared as second capital. Jwalaji is an important temple of Himachal. The shaktipeeth is where Matas tongue had fallen. There are many important temples of devi and shiva spread across state specially mountains.

Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, Chamba are the popular destinations in Himachal.


Shimla can be reached by Kalka toy train or bus. Even if you don’t come to Shimla by toy train you can enjoy small ride for one or two stations by toy train. Direct buses from Delhi are available via Chandigarh.

Tara devi temple, Rashtrapati niwas, The ridge, church and scandal point are most touristic places of shimla. Mall road, Himachal state museum, Baba bhalku rail museum, Shimla railway station, Jakhu temple ropeway, church are famous sightseeing places in Shimla. Excursion to Chail, Kufri, Narkanda, Naldehra can be done from Shimla.


Manu alay or Manu’s home is Manali.The Manu temple of old Manali is a place you must visit. Hidimba Devi Temple is another iconic site of Manali. This is the temple of Bheema’s wife and Ghatotkach’s mother Hidimba. Mall road is full of shopping and eateries options.

Some other places you should visit during your manali stay are Kasol, Manikaran. Manikaran gurudwara with hot water spring you should take a bath and eat langar prasad. Manikaran is at a distance of 85 km from Manali. Kasol is very popular among backpackers.

When Rohtang pass is closed you can go upto Marhi which is at a distance of 35 km from Manali. Rohtang Pass, Solan Nullah, Naggar, Vashisht village, Bhrigu lake, Manali Gompa, mountaineering institute are some of the places of interest at Manali.

Paragliding can be done at Manali Dhobi and Solang. Dobhi has beautiful views. Hot air balloon option is also available at Manali. Rafting is a popular sport at Manali. Renting a bike at Manali is perhaps the best way to explore Manali.


It is the head quarter of Kangra District. Mcleodganj is home to Dalai Lama at the height of 6800 feet. Hanuman tibba is the highest peak which is 19626 feet high. There are many trek options at Dharamshala which includes Triund, Kareri lake, Bir billing, Indhardhar pass. Rock climbing, rappelling, flying fox, zipline and camping facilities are available at Dharamshala.

Dal lake, Naddi, cricket stadium, Kangra art museum, st john church, tea gardens, Vajreshwari temple, Old fort, masroor rock cut temple are some of the attractions of Kangra. If you want to visit some less crowded places then Kangra, Dharamshala, Mcleodganj is an option for you.


Chamba is a head quarter of district of Chamba. It is based on the banks of the river Ravi. It has many handicrafts center. The place was established by King Sahil Varman 920 AD. Akhand Chandi palace, Chamunda devi temple, Champavati temple, Laxmi narayan mandir are few important attractions of Chamba.

Bharmour is 60 km from Chamba. Manimahesh lake is beautiful lake here believed to be made by Lord Shiva. It is also called Gaurikund. 84 temple is perhaps the only temple of Yama.

Khajjiar is called mini Switzerland 22 km away from Dalhousie. The lake is the main attraction here. Dainkund peak offers magnificent view of Dalhousie. Kalatop wildlife sanctuary is famous for its flora and fauna.

Dalhousie is situated in 5 hills and is famous hill station. You can stay here to visit the famous places of Chamba. Banikhet is 7km from Dalhousie which has chamera dam.

Backpacking Kasol  Kasol is backpackers paradise situated on the banks of Parvati river. With many foreign tourists visiting this place it has many cafes and hostels. One can easily spend one week at Kasol including trek of Kheerganga, visit Tosh village.   Spiti Lahaul valley  If you are little adventures and loves to stay in homestays and lodges Spiti is heaven. When Rohtang pass is open a full circuit spiti road trip can be done. You can hire vehicle from Delhi / Chandigarh. Starting from Shimla and ending it at Manali. During winters when Rohtang pass is closed Spiti can still be accessed but from Shimla side only.   Suggested itinerary.
