1st of July 1997 Hongkong was transferred to China. For more than 100 years it was leased to Britain and it has enjoyed the status of business city and tax heaven. Even today Hongkong retains its cosmopolitan identity. There are news of protests today against the China Extradition Bill. We also remember the umbrella movement for democracy.  Hongkong is a small island rather group of islands south of China flourished as busy port and trading city.
